That Spring feeling is in the air again and after a chilly winter, that even had us Nelspruiters seeing snow for the first time from our town (first time for most of us at least), the change of season is one that is most welcome.
The vibe is just different in Nelspruit at this time of year and as the days warm up and the flowers start blooming all over the town, locals and tourists alike will want to make the most of the sublime weather.
This August, the outside social scene that Nelspruit is so well known for will start coming back to life, and if you happen to find yourself in the town in August, there are a few things you can look forward to.
Before we get into the August activity list, let’s talk about where you are going to stay while you are in town.
Nelspruit Lodge is one of the town’s oldest and most established places to stay. With a variety of comfortable rooms available, and with our close proximity to various establishments in the town and surrounding areas, we are a top choice for most visitors. Nelspruit Lodge is also close to all of these exciting events that will be taking place this month, so let’s dig in!
12 August – GBV Marathon & the CANSA FundraiserÂ
This month it is all about the women, not just celebrating them but also protecting them and highlighting the fact that Gender Based Violence is still a very real and ever present problem in South Africa. To raise awareness, and funds, there will be a few events in and around the town this month that you can take part in, including the GBV Marathon that will be taking place on the 12th of August at Mbombela Stadium. It starts at 6:30 am and all of the proceeds will be going towards charity.
There will be another event for Charity, and on the same day, at the picturesque Magnolia Restaurant and Café in neighbouring White River. The CANSA fundraising Safari High Tea starts at 11am.
19 August – The Penryn FestivalÂ
The Penryn Festival is an annual event that many look forward to as it always brings with it plenty of fun. This year’s event is set to be extra special with even more fun things to do and to see. Along with its traditional market stalls, it will also have a beer garden and a tea garden, as well as activities to keep the children entertained for hours. The entry to the festivities will cost R180 for adults and R120 for children, and there will be park and ride facilities in Nelspruit and White River.
31 August to 2 September – Mpumalanga Show Â
This year’s Mpumalanga Show is set to be another event with loads of extra fun to look forward to. Not only does the show fall over the first few days of spring, but it also celebrates nature, culture and farming. Over the weekend you can learn more about the agricultural, wildlife and forestry industry, and you can also see what various location businesses are getting up to. The event starts on Thursday the 31st and ends on Saturday the 2nd. And every night is a party!
