The weather in Nelspruit is getting warmer, the scenery is a stunning display of green, and the town is abuzz with those year-end feel-good feelings. A trip to Nelspruit in October is really one for the books and it is easy to slip into that laid-back feeling when you decide to book a week or a weekend away at our Nelspruit accommodation.
Along with sublime weather that will invite you to picnic outdoors and enjoy evenings around the braai in good company, the social calendar will be packed to the brim with all sorts of fun and interesting things to do.
When you stay at Nelspruit Lodge, you will be close enough to all of the best attractions as well as the various things that you can do while in the area this October 2023. Whether you are looking to plan an adventurous break or looking to have a more rustic town escape, here’s what to add to your calendar.
7 October – Longtom Potjiekos Festival
If you have never been to Hops Hollow, you are missing out on a Tolkien-like adventure.
Hops Hollow is situated along the picturesque Long Tom Pass, in a hollow on the mountain side. The scenery is exquisite and like something out of a fantasy novel. On the first Saturday of the month the establishment, which is probably best known for brewing exceptional craft beer and other handmade delicious drinks, will be hosting the Longtom Potjiekos Festival. Anyone is welcome to join and to participate. The event starts at 7am, early enough to get the braai stew on the go. This event is perfect for the whole family.
14 October – The Volkswagen Vintage Air-Cooled Car Festival
Every year, Volkswagen fans from all over congregate at the beautiful Bohemian Groove Café to admire vintage wheels, and to put their own on display. This year’s dress code is going to be Flowa Powa, and guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion, with prizes up for grabs for the best dressed. And since it is October after all, there will be a German Beer Garden and Wurst Stube too!
28 October – Hoedspruit Craft Beer Festival
If you are in the area of the Kruger National Park towards the end of the month, you can swing by and take part in the festivities at the Hoedspruit Craft Beer Festival. There will be amazing beer, live music and food trucks, and there will also be a big screen displaying the Rugby World Cup Final (which our boys will hopefully be playing). The event is going to start at 12pm and adults will need to pay R350 to enter, while children under 12 will be able to go in for free.
29 October – The Uplands Christmas Market
The month ends with one of the most anticipated events of the year, The Uplands Christmas Market. This is one of the best places to get an early start on the Christmas shopping and what’s more is that you will be supporting local small businesses if you choose to do your shopping here. The event starts at 9:30am at Uplands College just outside of White River.
