The countdown is on!
In just a few short weeks, Nelspruit will once again be buzzing with the infectious energy of Innibos, which this year is celebrating its 21st birthday.
Whether you’re a seasoned Innibos attendee or a first-timer, making your way through the festival can feel overwhelming. This guide will equip you with the knowledge to survive (and thrive) at Innibos 2024.
Planning Makes Perfect
Innibos 2024 will run from June 27th to 29th. With a whirlwind of performances, exhibitions, and events, planning ahead will be key to maximising your Innibos experience. Here’s what we suggest, if you haven’t already done it:
- Book your Accommodation: Nelspruit fills up fast during Innibos. Book your hotel room, guesthouse, or Airbnb well in advance. Options like Nelspruit Lodge are particularly popular because they provide accommodation right next to the festival grounds.
- Plan your Transportation: Public transport options like the Innibos Park and Ride system are available to ferry you between the festival grounds and Nelspruit. Be sure to plan your accommodation according to your transport route.
- Buy your Tickets: Purchase your Innibos 2024 tickets online or at the festival entrance. This year the tickets can only be bought by card, as the festival is going cashless. Remember, specific shows might require separate tickets, so plan accordingly.
Packing for the Innibos Adventure
Nelspruit has deliciously warm, sunny weather during June but somehow those cold fronts always arrive at the end of the month, just as Innibos takes off.
Here’s a handy packing list:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Breathable clothing for warm weather, as well as some warmer clothes, especially for those cold mornings and evenings.
- Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
- Refillable water bottle
- Cash (some vendors might not accept cards)
- Copies of your ID and festival tickets
- Phone charger and portable battery pack (staying connected is key!)
- Rain jacket (unpredictable downpours are possible)
Pro-Tip: Pack a small backpack to carry your essentials throughout the festival.
On the Festival Grounds
Innibos takes place at the Bergvlam High School field, as well as a few other venues. Here are some tips for exploring the festival grounds:
- Arrive Early for Popular Shows: Beat the crowds by arriving early for highly anticipated performances.
- Explore Different Stages: Innibos offers a range of music, theatre, comedy, and visual arts. Don’t limit yourself to one stage, take a walk around.
- Stay Hydrated: The South African sun is unforgiving. Carry a refillable water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the day.
Get into the Innibos Spirit
Innibos is more than just a festival; it’s an experience. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere:
- Sample Local Delights: From boerewors rolls to melktert, indulge in the delicious South African cuisine offered by food vendors.
- Support Local Artists: Explore the stalls showcasing the work of talented South African artisans – you might find the perfect souvenir.
