Much like many other parts of South Africa, the arrival of summer creates an air of excitement and expectation in Nelspruit. Our summer months are long and some days are quite intense, making them just perfect for that afternoon siesta, which is something that you should definitely treat yourself to when you are in our town on holiday.
October marks the start of summer, with the daily temperatures already in the low to mid 30s, and the summer rains will soon make their eagerly anticipated arrival. October also marks the slow wind down to the end of the year and many Lowvelders are already getting into that holiday mood. At this time of year there are quite a few social events and things that you can do, so if you find yourself in our neck of the woods this October, here’s a gig guide of sorts for you to indulge in.
8th of October – Octoberfest @ Ngodwana Dam
Outside of the village of Ngodwana, sits the Ngodwana Dam, which this year will play host to a bush fun run and an Octoberfest event. The good times will get underway at 7:30 am, before the sun gets harsh, with the 5km fun run, and after that is the beer festival. This is the perfect event to attend if you have children, and the drive is not all that far from Nelspruit, so you can easily make a day of it. The fun run will cost R30 per person or R100 for a family of 4, while entry to the Octoberfest will cost R70 per person.

Food lovers prepare your taste buds for a treat! The new monthly Food Market is happening on the 9th at Casterbridge and you will be able to find all sorts of locally made food including pickles, jams, preserves, cheeses, honey and produce…did anyone say yummy?
